The Board of Directors - 2023

Jeannie myles (she/her)

President

Department(s):

E-Mail: jeannie@qaaw.ca

Exec. Portfolio:

Portfolio: Graphic Design, Marketing, Camps, Workshops, Artistic Season and Vision

Active Since: 2016

Jeannie has been involved with QAAW since auditioning for their large-scale production of Annie in 2016.  She quickly learned that she has a passion for live theatre so, in 2017, she took the leap and decided to join the board of directors which allowed her to be involved in all aspects of the community theatre.  The rest, as they say, is history. She has been involved in almost every production since that time, whether it be on stage or off.  She loves that theatre allows her to spread her creative wings and try things she’s never done and invites people to step into new worlds, anything from Dr.Seuss to Transylvania, and everything in between.  Her professional skill set allows her the ability to help with marketing and design and if you’ve seen a QAAW poster in the past 5 years, chances are it may have been done by her.  She looks forward to the return of live theatre, but in the meantime, she is keeping busy, helping to keep things at Quick As A Wink running in the background.

YVONNE VAN BLARCOM (she/her)

TREASURER

Department(s):

E-Mail: yvonne@qaaw.ca

Exec. Portfolio: Policy, Sales Dept., Financial Reporting

Portfolio: Front of House Systems, Ticket Sales, Season Tickets, Preview Shows, Online Sales.

Active Since: 2019

Since the beginning, Yvonne could often be found in the audience at QAAW shows with her family. Then, her friend Jan asked if she’d like to volunteer as a Front of House staff member. She then moved into sharing the Front of House Manager role with Jan. She also started taking on more of the administrative tasks for show prep. In 2019, she joined the board, so that she could help with the development of new sales ideas. Her organizational skills have come in handy with the progression of the Sales Department, developing tools to help with Front of House show setup and processing of patrons. She says that you will never see her on the stage, but enjoys greeting friends of the theatre, old and new.

Andy Woolaver here, a QAAW board member since 2018. Perhaps many of you have an interest in attending theatre. That was (still is) me as well !! While I have been (and remain) a long time volunteer with several varying organizations, I had zero working knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes (theatre phrase, Ha Ha). Being involved as a QAAW board member has allowed me to appreciate the myriad of board member experiences and attention to a multitude of detail that involves operating a live theatre organization. Be that, deciding on what plays to offer, recruiting and deciding on producers, actors, stage managers, finances, etc it all comes together to allow a volunteer group of folks interested in theatre  to really make a difference, supplying the opportunity for local actors and musicians to perform before the public. I have since learned a ‘tiny’ bit myself and anyone thinking they would have nothing to offer (regardless of experience level) should know that any board requires a mix of people. Hat’s off to this board as well, since all inputs are valued and encouraged. Of course these last months have seen all organizations needing to continuously ‘pivot’ and operate in a ‘non normal’ mode that ensures they will come out the other side, ready to resume / improve on activities and we are getting very close to being able to do that !! Come on out, get involved, perhaps as a sponsor or offer to serve on a committee to begin. There ‘is’ room for all and yes, its fun !!

MARK WAINMAN (he/him)

member-at-large
Past President (2019-2023)

Department(s):

E-Mail: mark@qaaw.ca

Portfolio: Communications, Shared Emails, Office 365 Administration, Media Relations, Board Chair, Brand Consistency.

Active Since: 2013

Theatre has been part of Mark’s life since early grade school, where he embraced the stage for the first time as Dracula in a youth production at Brooklyn District Elementary School. Mark continued to jump under the lights throughout high school and Mount Allison University, working with Garnet and Gold Musical Theatre Society and helping launch and develop the first three years of Black Tie Productions. Mark joined QAAW as part of the inaugural performance of Act 1: Scene 1 of the original musical Glory Days. He revived his role of Daniel Winkworth ten years later for the third full production of this original musical about Windsor’s historic great fire in 1897. In 2013, Mark joined the board of directors for QAAW and has been active ever since, holding the position of treasurer for many years, and recently having taken over as President. Mark has been involved with over 25 QAAW productions in roles from on-stage, lighting, set building, sound engineer, and marketing. Mark’s directorial debut was with Quick As A Wink’s Oklahoma! in 2014, and he has since directed or produced seven productions for QAAW. Mark’s passion for theatre is matched only by his passion for processes and systems, which he has employed throughout his time on the board of directors, first leading the re-branding project, then launching online purchasing and season ticket options, refreshing the Winkie Awards into a black tie gala hosted by Mark and Mike Butler, developing the Community Partnership program with local businesses, and implementing an organizational structure and internal communication model. His love of theatre will keep him in a role with Quick As A Wink for many years.

Jeff Murphy joined the Quick As A Wink board of directors in 2019. Before that, he often worked on show sets and helped out in other ways when needed. Jeff and his wife own a local garage (Atlantic Radiator) and dog daycare facility (Hound Tales Inn). He is a life long “car guy” and animal lover. The Murphy’s have fostered for several local dog rescues and have a happy little pack of hounds to keep them busy. Jeff believes in supporting local whenever possible and has a good working relationship with many other Windsor businesses. He moved from the city to West Hants about a decade ago and truly has found his place. If you’re looking for him, he will be found tinkering on something with wheels, or chasing some four legged family members around.
